Saint George is one of our greatest saints. He suffered unbelievable torture,

like a knife with knives cut by the body, but the Lord healed his wounds immediately.

He was thrown into a pit with freshly extinguished lime that burned everything to melt his bones, but the saint came out unscathed..

They put incandescent shoes with iron nails on him and force him to walk.. The Saint prayed and walked without suffering anything.

They beat him so hard with whips and amazed the whole body of the Saint, they presented him to Diocletian, who was surprised to see George shining like an Angel.

The king ordered to be given to him (two poisons) to drink the first poison. The Saint without hesitation drank the poison of the first container, after previously praying , saying: "Lord Jesus Christ, our God, ο ειπών καν θάνασιμον τι πίωτιν, don't hurt them, admire your mercy now ". And he suffered absolutely nothing!
They just saw that he suffered absolutely nothing, the king ordered the magician to give him the second vessel. He drank that too without the slightest thing. Then everyone was amazed by this miracle.

Αγίος Γεώργιος, βίος και θαύματα 1It has so much power that it touches my forehead (but for ten minutes) at his tomb in Ledda, Palestine, I received such Grace, which I did not take to the Holy Sepulcher either (of course we had to practice there in seconds).

Prayer of St. George

Oh my god, You, to whom I am born and to whom I have placed my hopes’ You who gave me courage and prepared me for it’ this fight’ You who are my sweet hope, the false promise, the unchanging love of sacred souls’

You who look carefully at the intentions of our hearts and satisfy our desires, before we even address our prayers in prayer’ You, say, help me bring this fight to a happy end, which I undertook to confess your name, and accept my soul and after you have preserved it above the evil spirits, associate it with those who have been pleased with You for centuries.

He forgave, Despot, to this people all that they did out of ignorance against me and demand them to truly know You, because you are Blessed in the ages to come ".

(The Martyr of Christ George, when he reached the place of conviction, begged the executioners to give him some time. This is exactly the grace that the Saint asked the enemies of his Faith. They granted his request. Then the Great Martyr gathered himself for prayer and after raising his gaze to heaven, he exclaimed from the bottom of his heart) soure: vimaorthodoxias

Biography
The popular Saint George the Great Martyr and Trophy Bearer was born about 275 A.D. in Cappadocia, by Christian parents. My father, indeed, He died a martyr's death for Christ when George was ten years old. His mother then took him with her to her home country of Palestine, where she also had her estates. When it was done 18 years, enlisted in the Roman army. Although young in age, he performed his military duties perfectly. Everyone admired him for his presence. That’ this, they quickly promoted him to higher positions and gave him the title of Earl, and Diocletian greatly appreciated him..

Confessor
From the time of the emperor Decius to the time when Diocletian ascended the throne, the 283 A.D., the Christian Church has grown too much, because peace prevailed. Christians have taken many public positions, they built many large temples, various schools and organized the administration and management of churches and charity.

Diocletian initially worked for the organization of his state. He hired generals as his assistants, who he called emperors and Caesars, and after he succeeded in subduing the enemies of the state and stabilizing his borders., turned to internal issues. Unfortunately, turned against Christian religion to correct idolatry. That’ so that's why, called Caesar's assistants 303 A.D. and generals in the capital of the eastern Roman state in three general assemblies. Among them was 28-year-old George, distinguished many times in wars.

So everyone gathered, to make decisions about the extermination and annihilation of the Christian faith. Diocletian was the first to speak and imposed on all n’ take on the devastating struggle against Christianity. Everyone promised to make every effort, to eradicate Christianity from the Roman state. T.when the brave George stood up and said: "Why, king and lords, you want blood to be shed right and holy and to force Christians to worship and worship idols "; And he proclaimed the truth of the Christian religion and the Divinity of Christ.

It just ended, everyone was confused m’ this confession of his and they tried to persuade him to repent of what he said, thus soothing Diocletian. But George was steadfast and courageously proclaimed his Christian faith.

In prison
Enraged, Diocletian ordered that he be imprisoned and that his legs be tied to the wood and that he be laid on his back., to put a large and heavy stone on his chest.

The next morning Diocletian ordered that George be presented to him for questioning . Again he remained steadfast in his confession and par’ all the flattery and promises of the emperor proclaimed his faith and spoke of the heavenly treasures. Diocletian was enraged by his words and ordered the executioners to tie the Saint to a large wheel to dismember his body.. In fact, he mocked the bravery of the Saint and called on him to worship the idols. George thanked God for asking him to be tested and accepted me thanking him for suffering this terrible martyrdom, which divided his whole body into small thin pieces, because there were sharp irons around the wheel, that looked like knives.

Really as soon as the wheel moved the sharp irons began to cut his body. Then a voice came from heaven saying, : "Do not be afraid, George, for I am with you ”and immediately an angel set the Saint free, untying him by the wheel and healed his whole stunned body.

George after acquiring his wonderful presence, with an angelic look, was presented to Diocletian who had gone with others to make a sacrifice. As soon as they saw him, they were all dazzled and amazed. Some did not claim to be someone who looked like him, while others claimed he was a ghost. But as they commented on the fact, two of his officers appeared before the king, Protoleon and Anatolia with a thousand soldiers and confessed their faith in Christ. Diocletian became so angry that he became enraged and ordered them killed, which happened immediately.

He then ordered that a pit with lime and water be filled immediately and that George be thrown in., to leave him inside for three days and three nights so that his bones would disintegrate.
The executioners actually threw the Saint into the scalded lime and closed the mouth of the pit.. After three days, Diocletian sent soldiers to open the pit. To their great surprise, however, they found George standing up, in the lime and prayed. The event impressed and aroused admiration and enthusiasm among the people, shouting: "George's God is great". Diocletian asked George for explanations, who learned the art of divination and how he uses it. George then replied that the events were the result of divine grace and power and not magic and charm..
Diocletian angrily ordered them to wear incandescent shoes with iron nails and force him to walk.. The Saint prayed and walked without suffering anything. He again ordered his imprisonment and thought of shouting at the lords to think of what they should do to George.. And after all they beat him so hard with whips and amazed the whole body of the Saint, they presented him to Diocletian, who was surprised to see George shining like an Angel. He thought, Well, that this phenomenon was due to his magical abilities. That’ this he called the magician Athanasios to solve the magic of George.
Harmless from the poison
He came, so the magician Athanasios, holding in his hands two clay vessels, where there was poison. In the first vessel, the poison was insane, while in the second death.
They immediately led the Saint to Diocletian and the magician Athanasios. The king ordered that the first poison be given to him to drink.
Diocletian still insisted that in order for George not to die, he had his own magic. The magician Athanasios who knew how active the poisons were, after kneeling in front of the witness, he confessed his faith in the true God.

Then Diocletian ordered and Athanasius was killed immediately. At that moment, the wife of Diocletian Alexandra arrived and confessed her faith in the true God.. And the cruel and heartless Diocletian ordered her to be imprisoned and the next day to have her head cut off.. Alexandra was praying in prison, she surrendered her soul into the hands of God.
The martyrdom of the Saint
Agios Georgios was imprisoned and at night he saw f’ his dream Christ, who announced to him that he would take the crown of martyrdom and claim the eternal life. At dawn, the soldiers were ordered by Diocletian to present the Saint in front of him.. Truly the Saint was walking full of joy towards the king, because he predicted that his end had come. So Diocletian just saw him, he suggested that they go to the temple of Apollo to sacrifice to his idol. When the Saint entered the temple, he raised his hand and after making the sign of the cross he ordered the idol to fall. Immediately this fell and became pieces.
The priest of idols and the people were so angry, who shouted at the king to kill George. Diocletian issued an order and beheaded him.
Αγίος Γεώργιος, βίος και θαύματα 1The faithful servant of the Saint, Pasikratis, performing the wish of the Saint, received the holy relic of the Martyr together with that of the mother of St. Polychronia and transferred it to Lydda of Palestine. From there, as the sources attest, the Crusaders took the holy relics of St. Polychronia and transported them to the West.
According to our Church, this glorious great martyr is the precious pearl, the excellent uncle, the lion the glorious, the star is bright, of Christ a hoplite, of the celestial army the interlocutor.
The miracles of the Saint
a) The transport of the column
A woman bought a column and could not send it to Rome where a church of St. George was being built.. So she saw the Saint in her dream, who with her raised the pillar and threw her into the sea . The column was found in Rome with an inscription placed on the right side of the church.
b) Salvation of a captured soldier
In Pamflagonia of Pontus the Saint was highly revered and in fact many temples were built in his honor.. Everyone honored the Saint so much that each family gave the name of p’ one of her male children. This also happened to a pious family. She raised her child who was wise, moral, prudent, and when he was twenty years old he was called into the army. In the battles against the barbarians many Christians including the young George, they fell into an ambush, and from them others slaughtered, others became servants and others sold slaves. George became a servant of an officer, who appreciated him a lot.
For a whole year, George's parents mourned and wept inconsolably for their lost child.. Every day they went to church and on their knees begged God to reveal to them what happened to their beloved child..
But also from his exile, George prayed to God to free him from slavery and to demand that he meet his beloved parents.. So a year has passed since he disappeared. In fact, the feast of the Saint and his parents arrived, who always hoped that their child would live, they invited their relatives to dinner.
That day, George's officer asked him to wash his feet before eating and for’ this George went to heat water. Throughout the day, George wept and begged his Saint to celebrate freeing him and leading him to his parents.. As soon as the water boiled, he prepared it for his master, The Holy Horseman p’ a white horse and after raising the new p’ this immediately, brought him to his house while all the guests were at the table. They were all dazzled then and when he told them the miracle in every detail, all full of joy glorified God.
c) The return of the widow's son
Pirates from Crete came to Mytilene to steal, plunder and capture as many as they could. They thought, Well, to make their raid on the day of St. George's Day, that everyone would be gathered in the church. The corsairs really attacked and among those they captured was a very nice young man., the son of a rich widow. The corsairs gave him to Amiran of Crete who made him a servant of his bank.
From the moment her son disappeared, his mother cried and begged God and the Saint to reveal her lost child to her.. The Great Martyr George did not delay in fulfilling the pain of the suffering mother. And while the young man was preparing to offer wine to Amiran, Saint George grabbed him and carried him to his mother. They both couldn't believe their eyes. When they met, they praised God and the Saint for the strange way of liberation.
d) Benefactor, but also punishable
In Pamflagonia there was a large temple in honor of St. George, and in the temple square the children were playing various games. One of these children could not win any of the many races, γι’ the others mocked and ridiculed it. He then turned to the image of St. George and begged him to help him defeat it and promised to offer him a sponge., that is, food from eggs fried with onions and herbs.
As soon as he did the classification, he started fighting with the other children who defeated them. He immediately went to his house and made the sponge himself and put it in front of the image of the Saint.. After a while, three young people arrived to worship and as soon as they saw the sponge they thought of eating it.. And they said to each other: "What does the Saint want?; Maybe he's going to eat them;»They sat down, Well, and they ate the sponge on the steps of the church. When they wanted to leave, they could not get up, because they were stuck on the marble stairs. They then made cheap vows to the Saint to come off, but nothing. When they made an expensive vow, to give each of a flori, only then could they detach n’ be released. They just left the church and took courage, they said to the Saint: "Saint George, your sponges are very expensive, γι’ this and we will not buy any of you again ".
e) Punishment of Saracen
A Saracen traveler (nephew of the king of Syria), as if he saw the magnificent church of St. George, he ordered his servants to carry their luggage and put it in the narthex of the church., because they would stay there to rest and then continue on their way. But he demanded that all twelve camels be placed in the church. The church priests begged him not to desecrate their church. But he insisted and went upstairs’ a high point of the temple to watch them. So when they were led to the church, they all died immediately. Then the miracle spread , and Sarakinos was impressed and asked to be taken out and buried. He stayed in the church until the morning when the priest came to officiate. During operation, at the time of the denomination of the honorable gifts, Saracen saw a vision that the priest after taking in his hands a small child, he slaughtered it and his blood was shed in the Holy Grail, and his body, after cutting it into small pieces, put it on the sacred disk. When the social service was over and Sarakinos saw the priest transmitting to the people the flesh and blood of the child, he was very angry. After that he asked to know details and get explanations. The priest explained to him about the divine thanksgiving, and he even told him that he claimed to have seen a vision that only the great fathers saw. "I – the priest tells him – I never claimed to see this horrible Mystery and I only see bread and wine. ". He then explained the miraculous mystery to Lord Saracen. Then Saracen wanted to be baptized because he believed that the Christian faith was the truest.. The priest then told him to go to Jerusalem to be baptized, because when his uncle would find out , who was king of Syria, it would kill him and start a terrible persecution against Christians. So Saracen went to Jerusalem where there was another ruler and was baptized by the Patriarch.. In fact, after a few days, he consulted with the Patriarch on what he had to do to be saved. At that time, the Patriarch advised him to become a monk on Mount Sinai. And that's exactly what happened.
After three years he took permission from his abbot and left to meet the priest of St. George who had advised him to be baptized.. When he arrived there, the priest did not recognize him. After revealing to him who he was, he expressed his desire to see Christ. The priest praised God and told him: "Go my child to your uncle Amiran and confess your faith so p’ him as well as p’ other Saracens ". As soon as the monk heard this, he was moved and immediately went to the city, where his uncle was lord. When he got there, He waited until nightfall and went up to the minaret of the mosque and started shouting: "Run here, Saracens, because I want to talk to you ". Then the Saracens ran with candles and when they saw the monk, they asked what he had to say to them. The monk told them: "You ask me what I have to tell you; So I ask you: Where is Amiran's nephew?, where he left secretly;"They answered him. "If you tell us where it is, we will give you as much money as you want.". The monk told them: "Take me to Amiran to tell you".
After they snatched the monk, they led him with great joy to Amiran. "This monk knows where your nephew is.", they told him. Amiras then asked if f’ he really knows where he is. "It simply came to our notice then. But now I am a Christian and I believe in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, one deity and I confess that the son of God was incarnated by the virgin Mary and we made great great births in the world and after he was crucified and went to heaven and sat at the right hand of God and Father, he is going to come again to judge the living and the dead ". As soon as Amira's uncle heard this, he said: "What happened to you, it bothered me, to leave your home , your riches, your glory and walk despised as a beggar; So return to your religion and accept Muhammad as your prophet so that you can return to your former state. ". The monk then told him: "It simply came to our notice then, it was part of the devil. This hairy dress of mine is my pride and wealth. Muhammad who deceived you and his religion, I totally hate it ".
As soon as he heard this, Amiras said to the Saracens who were there, that his nephew lost his sanity and was expelled. Of course, we did this to save him from the law that provided for the death penalty for abusers of religion.. As soon as they heard Amiran, they said: "You set free the one who insulted our prophet and our religion; So let us also renounce our religion and let us become Christians. ". Amiras, because he was afraid of the mob, might be more angry, gave him permission to do whatever they wanted. They grabbed him, gnashing his teeth in rage and after driving him out of town, they stoned him while he prayed and thanked God, because he demanded that he bear witness to the name of our Lord. That was the end of the courageous confessor Sarakinos.
Every night over the pile of stones , he looked like a shining star illuminating that world. The Saracens even admired the event. After some time, Amira gave Christians permission to remove the holy relic of the witness from the stones to bury it.. So when they picked up the stones, they found the relic "safe and sound" and it smelled of fragrance. After they worshiped it reverently, they buried him with hymns and psalms to the Lord.
f) The king's daughter escapes the dragon
In the Eastern Province of Antalya and in the city of Alagia, a Selvian who was a Christian warrior reigned.. He had tortured many Christians for n’ they denied their faith and then killed them.
Near the city there was a terrible dragon that grabbed people or animals every day and devoured them.. Residents had panicked and avoided passing. Once the king gathered an army and went to kill the wild beast. But he did not succeed and returned unscathed.
When the inhabitants saw that the king had failed to kill the dragon, they went to ask him why he could not find ways to kill the beast.. Then the king after advice given to him by the priests of the idols, he told the crowd: "You know we tried several times to kill the beast and we didn't succeed, because that was the will of the gods. So now, according to their order, each of us should send our child to be eaten by the dragon. Even I will send my only daughter, when it's her turn ". So, Well, the people obeyed the king's order because they could not do otherwise. They were sending, that is, their children with tears and mourning to be devoured by the beast.
When it was the turn of the king's daughter, tragic scenes unfolded. The king was beating his chest and face, he was pulling his beard and crying: "It simply came to our notice then! What to cry first my sweet child; Our separation or your sudden death that I will see soon; What to mourn, my favorite child, your beauty or your horror, that in a little while you will feel as if the beast is devouring you; Alas, my daughter, that you shone like a bright candle in my palace and I was waiting for the time when I would celebrate your weddings. Where will I find solace and how will I live away from you; What I want is life and palaces without you; That's what the inconsolable king was saying. Then he turned to the crowd and said: "My dear friends and lords, I ask you to sympathize with me. I offer you wealth as much as you want and even my kingdom, but do me a favor. Give me the only child, otherwise let me go with her too ". But no one was moved by his words, because he was the one who issued the order, to find his children such a bitter end. So in one voice everyone told him, that his child's order had to be enforced as well.
As if the king could not do otherwise, he accompanied her to the city gate. After he hugged and kissed her, he handed it over to the people to lead her to the lake. Really people left her and left. The people saw through the walls the daughter who was sitting near the lake and waited for the beast to come and devour her..
At that time, the great George, who had not yet professed his Christian faith, He was the earl and commander of a military unit in Diocletian's army. He even returned to Cappadocia from a campaign he did with Diocletian. God's will also passed through the lake when he saw the water, he wanted to water his horse and rest himself. When he saw his daughter crying incessantly and possessed by anguish and terror, he approached her and asked her why she was stealing and what was the reason that the people were watching her through the walls.. His daughter said he could not tell him what had happened and what was going to happen and asked him to ride his horse and leave., as fast as he could because he was in danger of losing his life and he was so young and handsome. The Saint insisted on learning what had happened to her. And she told him: "It simply came to our notice then, Mister, and I can't tell you everything in detail. I'm just telling you and please leave now so you don't die unjustly with me. ". And the Saint told her: "Tell me the truth, because you sit here and swear to God, which I believe , that I will not leave you alone, but I will set you free from death, otherwise I will die with you ".
Then the daughter sighed bitterly and told the Saint what had happened. After he heard the facts, asked the daughter: "To what God do your father and your mother and the people believe?";And she answered him: "They believe in Hercules and the great goddess Artemis". The saint then told her: "From today, don't be afraid or cry. He only believed in Christ, which I believe, and you will see the power of my God. ". The princess replied to the Saint: "Believe, Mister, m’ my whole soul and m’ all my heart". The Saint continued: "Have courage in God who created the heavens and the earth and the sea because Christ is going to abolish the power of the beast and all the inhabitants of this place will be freed and still chase away the fear of the beast.. Stay, Well, here and as soon as you see the beast coming, he shouted at me ".
Then the Saint knelt on the ground and after raising his hands to heaven he prayed and said: "The Great and Mighty God who sits on the cherubim and watches over the abysses, which is blessed and exists for centuries, You know that hearts are in vain, Dear philanthropic Despot, sir, watch over me now, your humble and unworthy servant, and show me your mercy.. Make me subdue this awesome Beast so that everyone knows that you are with me and that you are the only true God. ". Then a voice came from heaven, saying,. "Your prayer was heard, George, and do as you wish, because I will always be with you ". The Saint has just finished his prayer, the wild beast appeared. When the daughter saw it, she shouted: "I am just sorry , Mister! The beast is coming to devour me ".
Then the Saint ran to meet the beast. The beast was awesome. His eyes were on fire and he was so enraged and awful that he was terrified.. Immediately the Saint made the sign of the Holy Cross and said: "My Lord, Lord, day for my sake, that I am your slave, this beast for the people to believe in Your holy name " . So it happened. The terrible dragon with big teeth fell at the feet of the Saint's horse and was roaring. As soon as the princess saw the spectacle, he felt great joy. And the Saint told her: "Take off your belt and tie the dragon around your neck with it.". Immediately then, the daughter fearlessly took off her belt and tied the dragon, and thanked the Saint who saved her from certain death. The Saint after he got on his horse, he said to the princess: "Drag the dragon with your belt to the city".
When the residents saw the strange spectacle, that is, the daughter dragging the dragon tied, fled. "Don't be afraid, stand and you will see the glory of God and your salvation, ”the Saint told them. Then they all stopped in amazement and waited to see what he would show them. So he urged them, to believe in the true God and they gladly accepted. After raising his hand, he struck the dragon with the spear and the terrible monster was killed.. Then after taking the princess by the hand, handed it over to the king. Everyone felt great and inexpressible joy even after kneeling, they praised the feet of the Saint and thanked the All-Merciful God, because he freed them from the Beast and so the sacrifice of their children stopped.
The saint called Bishop Alexander from a city in Antioch and baptized the king and the lords and all the people.. Within fifteen days he baptized forty-five thousand. So after all were baptized and there was great joy on earth and in heaven, they also built a large church in the name of God. The Saint went to see her. As soon as he entered the Holy Altar, he prayed, a source of sanctification came out and a fragrance spread in the temple. You save this source to this day.
The Saint after saying goodbye to the king and the people, left for his hometown of Cappadocia. On his way he met the devil transformed into a human form. He held two sticks on which he rested like an old man. He even looked like a defeated and despised soldier. He said, so with humility to the Saint: "Hail George". The Saint immediately understood that he was the devil and told him: "Who are you and how do you know me?; If you weren't the evil devil, you wouldn't know me, since you've never seen me again ". The devil answered: "How dare you insult the angels of God and ask who I am; Learn to speak well ". The Saint then responded: "If it is as you tell me and you are an Angel, follow me. But if you are a wicked spirit, don't move from your position ". The Saint has just finished his speech, the devil was tied up and shouted loudly: "I am just sorry! What a bad time I met you! What a pity I fell into your hands, the sufferer!».
The Saint was convinced that he was a wicked spirit and told him: "I swear to God to tell me what you were going to do to me.". And the demon said: "I, George, I am from the second Battalion of Satan and when God made the sky and separated the earth from the waters I was present. I made terrible thunder and lightning, I tied my heads and now out of pride I went down to Hades and became a demon. Woe is me , George, because I envied the grace given to you and I wanted to deceive you to worship me. But I was wrong. Woe to me what evil I sought to suffer and I cannot be solved. Please George, remember my previous happiness and don't let me go back to the abyss because I told you everything ". Then the Saint, after raising his hands to heaven, said:: "S.’ thank you sir, for you have delivered into my hands the wicked demon, to be sent to a dark place to be punished forever ". As soon as he said this, the Saint appreciated and dismissed the evil spirit.

Miraculous icons of Agios Georgios in the holy monastery of Zografos on Mount Athos
a) The icon was transferred from the Monastery of Fanuel
During the reign of Leo the Wise (886 – 912 A.D.) they were three real brothers, Moses, Aaron and Basil and their origin were from the largest Lingida, which was later renamed Ohrid. So they decided to leave the world, the wealth, the glory and get the angelic shape. They reached Mount Athos and after finding a quiet place, they made tents, where they stayed for a long time and met only on Sunday. It was spread, so the fame of their virtue and for’ this many came to them and did not leave.
They found a place where they built a monastery. After they built the temple, they thought about naming it. Others said to dedicate it to St. Nicholas, others in St. Clement, Archbishop of Ohrid who was also their compatriot and everyone generally wanted to give the temple the name of the Saint, which nurtured greater reverence. Because, Well, They disagreed and decided to pray to God and pray that He would decide which of His Saints to dedicate the temple to and which image they would paint on the wood they had prepared.. All three prayed, everyone in his sanctuary. During the prayer, an unusual light shone from the newly built temple, brighter than the sun's rays around the monks' cells. The monks were seized with fear and wonder and remained praying all night.
The next morning when the monks went down to the church they saw with admiration that in the wood they prepared to paint, The icon of Saint Megalomartyr and Trophy Bearer George was painted. Ap’ in fact, the glow that illuminated the humble sanctuaries came out. So, The church was dedicated to Agios Georgios and the monastery was named Zografou.
The miraculous icon was found in the Monastery of Fanuel in Syria near Lydda. According to the testimony of the professor of the Monastery, Fanuel, Efstratiou, when God once wanted, to punish Syria and hand it over to the Saracens, the painting of the image suddenly left the wood and after it was raised it was hidden in an unknown place. The monks then, because they were afraid and saddened by the miracle, after kneeling, they prayed to God warmly and with tears and begged him to reveal to them where the face of St. George was hidden.. The Almighty God heard the prayer of the monks and the Saint appeared to the abbot and told him: "It simply came to our notice then. I found for myself a Monastery of the Virgin Mary on Mount Athos. If you want, go there too, for the wrath of the Lord is ready to fall upon corrupt Palestine, and almost p’ the whole Universe, because Christians sin ”.
After gathering all the monks, the professor announced the events. He then called the prominent people of the city of Lydda and announced to them what had happened to the holy image.. Then he ordered the following: "We are leaving, for the holy city of Jerusalem to worship the Holy Sepulcher of the Lord and let His will be done. You settle in the Monastery to protect it ".
They started with tears. After arriving in Joppa, they found a ship and left for Mount Athos. After several days they arrived at the monastery of Zografou. When they entered the temple, with surprise and admiration, they saw the painting of St. George, which they had in the monastery of Fanuel, remain attached without any alteration p’ a new wood. Then with emotion and tears they knelt in front of the image and said: "It simply came to our notice then, Great Martyr George; The monks of Zografou were amazed, because all this weirdness happened. But they were told the story and everyone praised the Lord and St. George wholeheartedly.. Professor Efstratios was made their Abbot.
Since then, many miracles have begun to take place in the holy image. That’ this was the people who went to the monastery of Zografou , to worship the Trophy-bearer George. The fame of the miracles even reached King Leo the Wise, who was very pious. In fact, he decided to go personally to Mount Athos to worship and rejoice spiritually with the psycho-beneficial discussions he would have with the ascetics Moses., Aaron and Basil who became famous for their virtue. After Leontas, the King of the Bulgarians Ioannis from Tirnavos also visited the Monastery.. With his rich help, the majestic Monastery of the Painter began to be built. Later, the holy monastery was demolished by barbarians and pirates. The current monastery was built by the Sovereign of Moldavia Stefanos.. He came from, according to tradition, ap’ the Vodena (Edessa) and when he heard of the miracles of the image he wanted to go with his entourage to find out if what was being spread was really true or if it was the invention of the monks., for financial reasons. When he reached Mount Athos he went to the Monastery of Zografos where the monks there welcomed him with the due honor.. He was then taken to the temple to worship St. George. But instead of looking humble and modest, the bishop seemed proud and short-sighted.. After he saw the temple with indifference, he stood in front of the icon of St. George and in an arrogant manner said to the monks: "So this is the miraculous image of the Saint". Immediately, however, his finger stuck to the image and he tried in vain to detach it. His anxiety and fear grew as he struggled to break free.
